The needles and tall trees

Today we decided to head out a bit further out of Hobart, close to Mt Field, one of the only ski resorts of Tasmania. Apparently there is good skiing up there at the moment with snow depths of 90cm. We opted for a different adventure though and went for a medium 3 km trail, leading us up to about 1100 m in altitude (starting at app. 700m). It is a short but steep climb, with probably very impressive views on a clear day but we went up into the clouds and the snow…

After the snow we wanted a bit more contrast and headed towards the big and bigger tree in the Styx forest to capture some rainforest… A pretty impressive part of the forest, which is now part of the UNESCO world heritage and host an 89 m tall tree (at the time of measurement).

And as a bonus…we saw a wombat on our way home…
