Aurora Australis

On Thursday evening we checked the Aurora forecast to find out that there will be quite some solar activity at a Kp level of 5. This means the aurora could be visible in Tasmania, if the cloud coverage is not too bad at night. The initial plan was to go out at 5 in the morning, but after dinner we double checked, found the activity to climb rapidly, checked the sky, not too many clouds in sight and off we went. Excited to have a chance to get my first glance at the aurora australis, we headed towards Kangaroo bluff and pretty quickly we were able to spot it…

Not the greatest ever shots, but for a first go and without a tripod and think those are reasonable…
